How to prepare for your newborn circumcision

fam

The choice of whether to have your baby boy circumcised is a tough one for any parent. It’s even harder when one must consider whether to do it while they are just a baby or wait until they grow older. It’s normal really to be nervous about the procedure, and your head may be bombarded with questions. Is it painful? Will the experience be traumatic for them? At Easy Circumcision, we’ve performed countless newborn circumcision procedures. If you are considering getting your little one, here are a few ways you can prepare for your newborn circumcision.

Pre-procedure preparation

Whether or not you are familiar with the idea of circumcision, you will probably always have a couple of questions lingering in your head. That’s why it’s always a good idea to consult your physician. For one, your physician will advise you on the right time to get them circumcised. Most newborns can get circumcised within two days after birth. However, some may have to wait a few more days. Like, let’s say if they were born premature or with a health condition. Your physician will also give you a detailed explanation of the procedure, which can help calm your nerves.

Circumcision day preparation

On the day of the procedure, it is advisable to arrive at the hospital early enough, about twenty minutes before the surgery. You should plan to be at the clinic for at least an hour. Newborns tend to react differently to the circumcision procedure. Yours may be calm during the entire process, or they may cry as soon as they are undressed. Given that you can’t predict their reactions, it’s a good idea to carry a soother or something that can distract them. You could also bring along a receiving blanket that you can use to carry the baby after the surgery. Ensure that your child is well fed before you leave home to make their stay at the hospital more comfortable. Arriving early would give you sufficient time to breastfeed them as you wait for the scheduled time.

The procedure

Generally, circumcision is a surgical procedure involving the removal of the foreskin covering the tip of the penis. However, the process or actual procedure will differ depending on where you have it done. At Easy Circumcision, we adhere to a more traditional holistic method for newborn circumcision. Our approach takes less than 30 seconds, and its virtually pain-free. We usually prefer for the parent to be present, given that we don’t use a circumstraint board. Instead, we believe having the parent holding their infant creates a special bond. An aesthetic will be applied to the base of the penis to ease the pain.

After circumcision care

You will need to be well-versed in how to take care of your newborn after the procedure. It’s relatively easy. Regardless, your doctor will advise you on what you need to do. This will include aspects such as wrapping a little soft gauze coated in Vaseline around the tip of the penis. Diapers will need to be wrapped loosely so as not to put pressure on the healing penis. Generally, though, the penis should be healed and in normal shape in about ten days.

At Easy Circumcision, we always aim to make the circumcision procedure safe, stress-free, and comfortable for all our clients. If you would like to learn more about the newborn circumcision procedure, get in touch with us today.
